History
Two years after the formation of H.O.G. in Australia, the first General Meeting of the Far North Eastern Chapter was held at McGregor Motors on 16th September 1992. Nine people attended, and the meetings main business was to elect a committee. At the second meeting a week later, the H.O.G., Cape York Chapter was adopted. The first chapter run around the Tablelands was held on 4th October. The Townsville Chapter’s Christmas Party on 28th November was the first of many visits to the Townsville area for yuletide festivities, and Chapter Challenges and the rivalry has continued ever since.
Our Chapter hosted a State Rally for the first time in 1997 and H.O.T. (HOG Officer Training) was held in Cairns in Aug/Sept 2012 with members from all around Australia, New Zealand and as far afield as China, Singapore, Thailand, New Caledonia and India.
Cape York HOG celebrated its 20th Anniversary in 2012 with celebrations being a huge success and enjoyed by many, including new and old members, some of whom joined in 1992 and, culminating with the Cape York Chapter winning our Chapter Challenge and the successful return of our trophy however there was one casualty being our Chapter Flag which apparently needed a holiday (with Townsville). Apparently it had a lovely time according to the photos.
In May 2014 we hosted the 23rd National HOG rally, our members guided HOG members from all over the country on rides all around our lovely area, culminating in a Thunder Run to Port Douglas and back, the people of Cairns lined the highway out of town to watch the bikes leave town.
2017 saw the club celebrating the 25th anniversary of the clubs formation, the committee had some celebratory events, if you are a past member, current member or wanting to join us, make sure you come along and join us for a ride soon.
